Topics will include:
Ø How two post-grads developed their entrepreneurial venture
Ø Web-based poverty alleviation
Ø How users can get directly involved in financial development
Background
*Dvelo.org enables users to lend to business owners in impoverished communities through its field partners and a practice called microfinance. These business owners and communities aren't looking for handouts or donations, they simply seek the access to credit that the rest of us often take for granted. They are not charity cases. They are hard-working, responsible individuals that would like to be given the opportunity to succeed in the marketplace.
*Dvelo.org allows partnered microfinance institutions (MFIs) to request direct investment for the communities they work with through the site. These organizations typically get their funds from either donations, grants, or loans from local commercial or institutional lenders. These commercial and institutional lenders often charge anywhere from 15-20% interest on their loans to MFIs around the world because of the perceived risk involved. Dvelo.org serves to reduce this cost of capital for these MFIs by giving them a platform to request loans directly from social lenders for an appealing interest rate.
